Glossary of Terms

CE

Communaute Europeene: If a CE mark is placed on a device it is a declaration by the manufacturer or importer that the device complies with all the relevant European standards.

EMC

Electromagnetic Compatibility: The compatibility between a device and its electromagnetic environment.

Emissions

Electromagnetic interference being produced by the device, either radiated through the air and conducted along power and signal lines and enclosures.

Environment

The location where the device will be used.

ESD

Electrostatic discharge:

EUT

Equipment Under Test: The device, equipment or system being tested.

Harmonics

A multiple of a fundamental frequency: Fundamental or 1st harmonic, times 2 = 2nd harmonic, times 3 = 3rd harmonic….

Immunity

The ability of the device to operate when Electromagnetic interference comes from the environment around it radiated through the air and conducted along power and signal lines and enclosures.

Ports

Connections between the device and the outside world. This also includes the enclosure.
